Music Boosters Board Meeting Minutes
Submitted by Kathy Cranford, Secretary
Next meeting scheduled for February 12, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.
In Attendance:
Mike Cummins, Christoph Weber, Pia Weber, Jan Frost, Debbie Norris, Carolyn Suazo, Rebecca Goetze, Ellen, Goetze, Isabela Weizman, Jeanne Hoey, Kathy Cranford
The meeting began at 6:40 pm.
Announcements:
Vice-President Christoph Weber opened the meeting. The minutes from the December 11th meeting were reviewed and accepted.
Financials:
Jan passed out handouts of the latest financial report. The cost of buses came in under budget this past fall due to fewer field shows. Anastasia is purchasing some new items for Pageantry. We made approximately $1000 on the holiday concert. The breakdown is approximately $500 from ticket sales, $250 from the raffle, and $250 from the bake sale. Jan offered to write a reminder letter to families who have not yet contributed their fair share donation. Christoph proposed to increase Anastasia’s salary to $300/month. The motion was passed unanimously. Anastasia will have 13 or14 girls for Winter Guard, and she has done a wonderful job during field show season.
Awards banquet:
The annual awards banquet will be scheduled for the first week of June. Valerie Zverina will be organizing the event. In the past, it has been held at Tom Hamm’s Lighthouse, and we would like to have it there this year also. We discussed whether to include the choir and their families. There was positive interest in including the choir; however, it is not known whether Tom Hamm’s banquet room is large enough to accommodate more people. Pia offered to contact them and inquire about their maximum capacity. We estimated 160 people for the band, orchestra, choir, and their guests.
Fundraisers:
We discussed the Rising Star Band concert which will be held on Saturday, March 8th in the UCHS auditorium. Carolyn and Ellen volunteered to join the concert planning committee (Pia, Jeanne, Cindy, Angeli, Christina, Karin, Jan, and Kathy) which will meet next Thursday, the 17th at Pia and Christoph’s house at 6:00 pm. Their address is 5957 Erlanger St. 92122, and their phone number 858-623-0318. Mr. Cummins has reserved the auditorium for this event, and he will find out if any school staff is needed for that evening. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm; the show lasts 90 minutes, and we’ll have the snack/bake sale after the performance. The auditorium holds approximately 340 people, and Mr. Cummins suggested selling the tickets for $12 each. The students will be responsible for pre-selling the tickets. Mr. Cummins suggested contacting KUSI, radio station 98.1 FM, and the Union Tribune for advertising.
Carolyn volunteered to organize the Souplantation and Rubio’s fundraisers this year.
Volunteers for next year:
Pia reminded us that time is running out, and the Music Boosters are still in need of volunteers for next year, especially President, Treasurer, and Vice-President. Mr. Cummins said he will make an appeal to parents at the Spring Concert. Christoph offered to draft an e-mail message for Malou to distribute.
Mr. Cummins’ comments:
He received many compliments about the Holiday Concert. People really enjoyed it, mentioning the wonderful job the choir did. The finale was also very popular. Mr. Cummins received a thank you note from Principal Mr. Price saying how much he enjoyed the concert and his gift.
There will be a festival at Poway High School on Wednesday and Thursday, April 9th and 10th. All three groups (band, orchestra, and choir) will perform at Graduation on Monday, June 16th.
Music website:
Christoph reminded everyone to check out the music program website: www.UCHSmusic.com. Bonnie has been doing a great job as webmaster by keeping everyone up to date on what’s been happening, upcoming schedules, and posting the Booster meeting minutes.
Pia noted that Kathleen Hill is still paying for our website. We need to ask her every year if she is still able and willing to do this for us. Bonnie has been in touch with Kathleen.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm.
