Music Boosters Board Meeting Minutes
Submitted by Kathy Cranford, Secretary
Next meeting scheduled for April 8, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.
In Attendance:
Mike Cummins, Pia and Christoph Weber, Jan Frost, Jeanne Hoey, Karin Walin, Isabela Weizman, Carolyn Suazo, Cindy Au, Angeli Menta, Danny Frost, Kathy Cranford
The meeting began at 6:40 pm.
The minutes from the last meeting were reviewed and accepted. Thanks to Jan Frost for filling in for Kathy!
Financials:
Jan passed out handouts of the latest financial report. We made almost $2200 from the Rising Star Band concert. There will be 2 more concerts this school year, the Spring Concert and Pops Concert. We estimate making about $1000 (from tickets, raffle, and bake sale) total from these concerts.
Mr. Zinser has graciously offered to record the Spring Concert and Pops Concert as he has done in past years. He will have CD’s made for sale and proceeds go to the music program.
Mr. Cummins discussed hiring Noel Deleon, a former student, as a percussion instructor and proposed the Music Boosters pay him $100/month for the rest of the school year. Noel has already been volunteering his time to help the percussion group. The motion was passed unanimously. Mr. Cummins believes this will help pull students in from Standley to join the UCHS drum core.
The budget was accepted.
Banquet:
It will take place on June 4th at Tom Ham’s Restaurant at 6:30pm. We’re expecting about 160 people. The cost per person is $37. It was proposed to charge $35/ticket then subsidize $2/ticket with funds from the Music Boosters. The motion was passed. We discussed contributions from the orchestra and choir for next year. The awards for the banquet cost about $800. Valerie is making the centerpieces for the banquet.
Volunteers:
Bonnie has volunteered to be the Communications Director next year, in addition to continuing her duties as Webmaster. However, due to prior commitments, Bonnie will not be able to attend meetings, so Kathy volunteered to update Bonnie after each meeting.
Kathy volunteered to help with the Food Committee next year. Pia said that Brandon Jackson’s dad has offered to continue to help the marching band and color guard by providing food from Subway during the fall Field Shows.
We discussed possible truck drivers for next year; Jim Raley and Kenway Hoey were mentioned.
Fundraising:
Isabela offered to do one more raffle probably at the Spring Concert on April 17th. During Jeanne’s advertising efforts for the Rising Star Band event, she received two City box seat tickets to a Padre’s game from council member Scott Peters. Those will be included as a raffle item. It was agreed to solicit ads for the Spring Concert program at the usual rate of $25 for ¼ page, $50 for ½ page, and $100 for a full page.
Souplantation:
Carolyn is organizing this event, and it will be scheduled for the end of April or May. It will be announced at the Spring Concert and she’ll have flyers to hand out. It was agreed that a Wednesday would be the best day of the week to have this fundraiser.
Other Business:
Jeanne suggested writing a thank you letter to the Rising Star Band and all agreed that would be a great idea. Mr. Cummins mentioned the Rising Star Band offered to give another benefit concert in the future!
Mr. Cummins wants to extend a guest invitation to Standley Middle School students for the Spring Concert. Students could just show their ID card and be admitted for free. The possibility of extending this invitation to other middle schools was discussed.
The string orchestra and the concert band both received marks of “Excellent” at the Eastlake Festival.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm.
