Music Boosters Board Meeting Minutes

Submitted by Kathy Cranford, Secretary
Next meeting scheduled for December 10, 2009 at 6:30 pm (postponed to Dec. 15)

The meeting began at 6:35 pm.

Attendance:

Mike Cummins, Carolyn Suazo, John Hempsey, Jeanne Hoey, Ellen Goetze, Deb Velez, Sheri McPherson, Andrea Espinoza, James Raley, Maria Raley, Belinda Textor, Bill Marsh, Kathy Cranford

President Carolyn Suazo opened the meeting and asked everyone to review the minutes. They were reviewed and passed.

Field Shows:

Mr. Cummins went over the schedule for the upcoming Field Show at King High School in Riverside. The call time is 9:00am; we leave UCHS at 9:30am, arrive at King High School at 11:30am, line-up at 12:45pm, performance at 1:15pm, awards at 4:45pm, leave King High School at 5:30pm, and arrive back at UCHS at 7:30pm. Pizza will be delivered at 1:45pm, and there will be an opportunity to take group photos immediately after the performance.

Treasurer’s Report:

Jeanne Hoey then passed out copies of the current budget and gave a report. Receipts from Field Show expenses are coming in (food, rental truck, etc.). We need more families to make their fair share donations especially color guard. Kathy Cranford offered to request an e-mail list from Anastasia and remind the color guard parents to make their donations. Jeanne requested a class roster from Mr. Cummins so she could match up which parents have made their donations. The check from Jamba Juice from last spring came in, putting us approximately $30 over for last school year.

Volunteeers and Booster Officers:

Next Carolyn talked about replacing current officers with new parents from younger students. We have had some great volunteers this fall from newer parents, and it is good for them to get the experience to see what we do and see how much work is involved in making the music program events happen.

We need a new Food Coordinator for next year. Please contact Kathy or Carolyn if you have questions and/or are interested in filling this important position.

John Hempsey suggested sending out the minutes to all parents on the e-mail list so everyone can keep current and we can then highlight important items. We need a current roster for band and guard.

Jeanne announced that she has someone to shadow her this year and take over the position of Treasurer next year.

Field Show Scores:

Mr. Cummins reviewed the scores of the first 2 Field Shows. He said the music improved from the first to the second Field Show. The guard is practicing extra hours this week to prepare for the Field Show in Riverside.

Football Game Performance:

We have a home football game performance this Friday, the 13th, at 2:30pm. We need someone to make 5 laminated passes for Music Booster volunteers, so they can bring in water for the students and rope off the band/guard section in the stands. Carolyn volunteered to make the passes. Belinda Textor volunteered to take care of roping off the section and bringing ice water for the students.

Holiday Concert:

We discussed the Holiday Concert which is Thursday, December 17th, at 7:00pm. Do we want to have a silent auction? Last year, we had a golf bag and chairs donated. It was agreed to wait until the Spring Concert to have the silent auction so it will give us time to get more donations and put together packages with themes. At the Holiday Concert we will have a bake sale and sell sweatshirts, key chains, and license plate frames. Deb and Kathy offered to bring nacho fixings for the bake sale. Ellen volunteered to make a flyer for the Holiday Concert for e-mail distribution.

Uniforms:

We need to order a box of silver buttons for the marching band uniforms for next season. Mr. Cummins said the company is Waterbury.

Upcoming Events:

Eastlake Festival (Concert Band) in March, Spring Concert in late March/early April, Pops Concert in late May/early June, Winter Guard - several dates in March/April.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:35pm.
