Cameron Brown, Music Director

Mr. Brown is in his sixth year teaching (the last four at Hoover High School), and his first year at University City.  A graduate of William Fremd High School in Palatine, IL, Mr. Brown began his teaching career right away by writing the front ensemble arrangement, as well as coaching the front ensemble, for his alma mater’s 2002 marching season immediately after graduating.

During his time at San Diego State University, Mr. Brown studied trumpet and percussion, performed in the Marching Aztecs, Varsity and Pep Bands, Symphonic Band, and the award-winning Wind Symphony under the baton of Mr. Harold Warman.  He graduated from SDSU with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education in May of 2006.  In 2011, Mr. Brown completed his Master of Music degree in Instrumental Conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University.  While studying at ABC, Mr. Brown learned from some of the world’s best music educators, conductors, and composers including Lowell Graham, Alan Keown, Tony Maiello, Eugene Rousseau, Robert Ponto, Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, Robert Spring, Paula Crider, Sam Pilafian, Patrick Sheridan, Bobby Shew, Harry Watters, Frank Wickes, Peter Boonshaft, Johan de Meij, Col. Arnald Gabriel, Nick Petrella, Matt Savage, Dr. Frank Tracz, Robert W. Smith, and Frank Ticheli, among many more.

In 2010 during his third year at Hoover High School, Mr. Brown received the David Paul Schuchman Award for Outstanding Secondary Music Director in the San Diego Unified School District.  Mr. Brown is committed to providing a first-class arts education to the students of University City High School and is happy and excited to be here!
